What Can You Expect from Hempfield Family Dental Care?

While our focus is on preventative care and healthy dental care habits, we have found that patience and understanding, along with a "show and tell" atmosphere allows us to perform most routine pediatric dental procedures with ease.

For example, we introduce young children to the Magic Squirt Gun and Mr. Thirsty (suction) and allow them to try them out to see how they work. We demonstrate the use of our dental drill by running it at a very low speed and letting children see how it "tickles" their fingers.

We also employ the use of laser cavity repair whenever possible, which does not require the use of Novocain. We strive to provide the highest quality pediatric dentistry in Lancaster County to meet the needs of your family.

Common Pediatric Dentistry FAQs

At Hempfield Family Dental Care, we know you have questions about how to provide the best care for your children's oral health. The biggest questions our patients ask are:

Why is Children's Dental Health Important?

Tooth decay can begin at any age, depending on dental hygiene habits and the types of food your child is eating. Even though children will lose their "baby teeth," it is essential to maintain healthy teeth and oral hygiene at a young age. One of our major goals is to instruct parents to help their children develop healthy habits at an early age so that they can maintain their teeth throughout their life.

When Should Kids Start Going to the Dentist?

Most of our pediatric patients have their first cleaning and checkup at age three since they are capable of understanding and cooperating with our team. Prior to that age, we encourage parents to bring their children to their appointments with them so they can become comfortable in the office and get to know us. We are always available to deal with dental issues for children of any age.

How Often Should Kids Go to the Dentist?

After their initial exam, it is recommended that children continue to see the dentist every six months for follow up visits and regular cleanings. Young children grow quickly and it is important to monitor their overall dental health and any potential bite or jaw alignment issues that may develop as they grow.
